Maybe then I’ll fade away and not have to face the facts
It’s not easy facing up when your whole world is black

Today was a disaster.
I should have stayed in bed.
I knew I had no business racing Davis Crit after taking so much time off, but I grew up here and a home town race needs to be done. I knew I had enough to stay in, at the least.
Cut to me popping off the back 30min in; excuses and self loathing ensues. And then the real question: why? Why keep doing this.
For the solace, I rode to my mother’s house, an hour away and in 95° heat.
My route brought me here, Stevenson Bridge, where as a teen we smoked and wrote graffiti. Typical.
Seeing this didn’t change anything or bring about an epiphany. My day was still terrible and I can’t wait to forget it. However, there’s something about coming home after a bad day that’s like a hug from an old friend.
